C-Suite Partners is pleased to continue our partnership with Gold Coast Health in the search for a Chief Medical Officer (CMO).
  
The CMO is a highly strategic and critical role accountable for providing professional leadership for the Gold Coast Hospital and Health Service (GCHHS) medical workforce, to ensure the delivery of high-quality, safe care to the community.
  
One of Queensland’s 16 hospital and health services, Gold Coast Health delivers a broad range of secondary and tertiary health services across more than 20 facilities, including three hospitals and two health precincts.

It serves a population of almost 700,000, while also providing specialist tertiary care to more than 300,000 residents in Northern New South Wales.

Reporting to the Health Service Chief Executive (HSCE) as a member of the Executive Leadership Team, the CMO is a trusted advisor to the HSCE and GCHHS Board on clinical governance, systems, and workforce matters, in alignment with the broader strategic plan.  

The CMO is responsible for the standard of clinical care and clinical performance across GCHHS and has key clinical oversight responsibility. The role also provides professional leadership for medical workforce planning, performance and optimisation and capability development.
    
Key Responsibilities:  
  • Provide leadership to the GCHHS’s medical workforce and high level, expert advice to the HSCE and GCHHS Board on the delivery of clinical systems and medical workforce matters.
  • Provide advice and support to clinical leaders and executives in resolving complex, clinical, Medico-Legal, ethical and operational challenges.
  • Provide executive level medical support in the strategic oversight and leadership of the GCHHS clinical governance function, including quality, credentialing, accreditation, Medico-Legal, incident management and patient safety programs.
  • Lead professional conduct and practice of the medical workforce within legislative, regulatory, professional and ethical parameters.
  • Develop and maintain strong partnerships across the Department of Health, other Government departments, and with key external stakeholders.
Key Requirements: 
  • Proven track record of clinical leadership and strategic service delivery within a complex healthcare environment.
  • Highly developed understanding of clinical risk assessment and management, together with clinical governance policies and practices.
  • Exceptional communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills, with a strong ability to engage, collaborate, and negotiate with other health professionals, professional bodies, government agencies, stakeholders and health consumers.
  • Ability to drive the implementation of strategic initiatives aimed at continuous quality improvement and aligning the organisation with relevant accreditation standards.
  • MBBS or equivalent registrable with the Medical Board of Australia, plus specialist registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). Fellowship with the Royal Australasian College of Medical Administrators (or evidence of significant progression towards) highly regarded.
